a corporate social responsibility program
Detroit Renewable Energy (DRE) is a consortium of renewable-energy generation and distribution companies committed to providing the City of Detroit with safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions for clean energy and waste disposal.
DRE’s goal is to positively impact the Greater Detroit community by supporting initiatives related to education, environment and neighborhood quality of life.
Calypso created a corporate social responsibility program for DRE designed to strengthen relationships and build trust with stakeholders, and make a positive impact in the local community. The team designed an experiential science education program for the Golightly Education Center, a local school that provides scholarly educational opportunities for Detroit’s future leaders. Photos and stories from the program are shared on social media, in company newsletters, and the annual sustainability report, and in communications with elected officials and community leaders.
Classroom Sustainability Program
Focusing on a ‘whole systems approach’ to environmental sustainability, the students are taught to consider the ‘big picture’ of their environmental impact and to take responsibility in caring for the community.
Golightly Education Center
DRE staff volunteers provide hands-on educational experiences for fourth and fifth grade students that make science fun and exciting. Through this partnership, the Golightly Education Center and team members from DRE have worked with the students to plant and maintain a garden, collect expired food to make compost, and build birdhouses to encourage a diverse ecosystem. These fun, educational experiences offer students the opportunity to learn about community, environment, and sustainability through hands-on activities and experiential learning.
